Every battle you’ve seen so far has taken place in and around Los Angeles—and this is how those battles fit together. Ebbtide is a sandbox zombie survival RTS I’m developing solo. For the tutorial and Chapter 1, I’m building a fighting retreat across LA, holding successive positions as you fall back toward the Port of Los Angeles. I visited LA a few years ago and spent plenty of time exploring it in GTA V. I knew it was huge, but researching the wider metropolitan area for this battlefield made me appreciate its scale all over again. I had to draw the map boundary somewhere—sorry, Anaheim! In this video, orders on the map become action on the battlefield. Command ships and call in fighter support, follow an Apache across the city, then give armored units their orders and watch the fighting at street level. Ammunition matters too: a tank with no ammunition needs resupply before its main gun can fire again. The city is still a work in progress. I’m planning more operations, encounters and landmarks, while working to reduce loading interruptions between the map and the battlefield and improve close-up detail across such a large area. And beyond LA, there’s still the Pacific… but that’s for another update.
